Have a great weekend! |
Dear families,
We hope you had a wonderful week! Here is a highlight of our learning this week:
Felting Art Project
A big thank you to our parent volunteers! This experience would not have been successful without your support!
In the felting art project, our class selected the Seven Sacred Teachings with a visiting felt artist. Students enjoyed the learning process as they created their own felt artwork and selected their favorite animals.
Literacy Centers
We continue our regular literacy centers this week, continuing to strengthen spelling, reading comprehension, writing, and editing skills. In whole group instruction, students revisited summarizing strategies by identifying main ideas and supporting details using a graphic organizer while reading a nonfiction text, with the goal of strengthening reading comprehension when engaging with unfamiliar texts.
Writing / Science-Based Nonfiction Summary Writing Task
Students engaged in writing a summary paragraph to demonstrate their understanding, with a focus on improving word choice and using subject-specific/academic vocabulary based on a science nonfiction article. We encourage you to ask your child what they remember learning.
This week, students learned the difference between volunteering and charity, and that charity involves giving to help others and improve quality of life. Students are designing donation boxes to collect items for others, showing their understanding of how people can support their community.
They also learned ways to show appreciation for our parent volunteers! We hope you like their thank you cards!
Math
Students are continuing to review a variety of math concepts based on their interests through various game-based centers.
Art
In Art, students continued working on and finishing their projects. They learned about the background of artist Edvard Munch, and explored why The Scream is a famous artwork. They developed artistic understanding by discussing what they liked and did not like, using visual language, and identifying elements such as color, line, shape, and expression. Students continued to reimagine the artwork by transforming its emotional theme into a more positive image, such as a happy and excited child!
