Dear Parents,
Welcome to the start of an exciting new term! These few days in Grade 3 have been wonderful!
The students have shown great enthusiasm and a strong eagerness to learn, and it has been a joy getting to know each of them!
What We Did This Week:
Getting to Know You:
We spent time building our classroom community by sharing about ourselves.
Classroom Routines:
Students learned our classroom rules and routines to help us have a smooth and respectful year.
They picked their classroom jobs and are learning to be responsible by helping others and serving our classroom community.
Literacy:
This week, students engaged in guided reading groups and literacy centers focused on word work, reading fluency, comprehension and fun learning activities. Activities were designed to support skill development, encourage active reading, and meet students at their instructional level.
Writing:
Students learned about OREO opinion writing and how to use the graphic organizer to plan their writing. They practiced sharing their opinions and wrote about different topics using this strategy.
In recognition of Black History Month, students learned about Nelson Mandela and wrote opinion pieces about him using the OREO writing strategy they recently learned. Ask your child to share one fact they learned about Nelson Mandela and their opinion about him!
Math:
Students are practicing arrays using objects and counters to better understand multiplication by seeing equal groups in rows and columns. They are also learning multiplication and division through hands-on strategies like repeated addition and repeated subtraction. These activities help students understand how math works and build a strong foundation.
Science:
Students are learning how information about changes to the Earth’s surface is shared with others. They are also exploring how this knowledge is shared through storytelling and traditional knowledge.
Valentine’s Day:
Students exchanged cards with each other to show kindness and appreciation. We also enjoyed fun activities to celebrate the day together!
P.E.
Students had so much fun during P.E. participating in Olympic-inspired relay races!
